¡Þ As a campaign to enhance public awareness on Climate Change, the Ministry made an ark and holds 'the unveiling ceremony of the Green Ark'
¡Þ The ceremony is accompanied by various exhibitions, such as photos of endangered wildlife due to climate change and artwork made with recycled materials, providing the largest archive of climate change related information.
¡à Ministry of Environment will hold 'the unveiling ceremony of the green ark¡® at YeouidoPark(CulturePlaza), on November 22nd.
- This ceremony was planned in order to emphasize the seriousness and threat caused by climate change and let people feel the problem through the green ark.
¡à This ceremony is promoted as a public relations strategy and it took 2 months to make the ark similar to a real ark.
- The installation artist, Lee Hwan (Publicity Ambassador of Ministry of Environment) devoted himself to design and make an ark for 2 months.
¡à The 25-meter-long GreenArk is divided into 3 pavilions, main theme, experience and theme pavilions
- The interior of the ark is decorated with panels illustrating 100 exterminated species, and Ice-shape artwork with engraved fish shapes that are endangered by climate change, which is expected to enhance public awaren ess on the seriousness of climate change.
- Outside of the ark, activities and exhibitions - robots made with recycled materials, planting trees of hope, and etc. - that encourage the public to participate in the "STOP1 CO2 " campaign, will be provided.
¡à The ceremony constitute three part, pre, main and post ceremony.
- At the pre-ceremony, 'The funeral parade of exterminated species' with portraits of 220 species of exterminated wildlife on earth and the installation of large terrestrial globe will illustrate the striking reality where lives are dying beacuse of climate change caused by global warming.
- The main ceremony will be accompanied by "The declaration of a nationwide campaign responding to climate change" with juvenile publicity ambassadors.
- The post-ceremony will provide children and their parents with day-to-day experience on environment through the Korea's largest exhibition on climate change.
¡à Two significances of this ceremony are;
- First, it introduce the PR method that people participate in the survey to select priority animals and plants that will be loaded to the ark, by accessing to the website "www.gihoo.or.kr".
- Second, this exhibition gathered and exhibits all the materials on climate change that had been separately possessed by NationalBiologicalResourcesCenter, EnvironmentRecyclingMuseum, and environmental organizations such as Korea Federation for Environmental Movement
